Common
Common (originally Common Sense) was a highly influential figure in rap's underground during the '90s, keeping the sophisticated lyrical technique and flowing syncopations of jazz-rap alive in an era when commercial gangsta rap was threatening to obliterate everything in its path. His literate, intelligent, nimbly performed rhymes and political consciousness certainly didn't fit the fashions of the moment, but he was able to win a devoted cult audience. By the late '90s, a substantial underground movement had set about reviving the bohemian sensibility of alternative rap, and Common finally started to receive wider recognition as a creative force. Not only were his albums praised by critics, but he was able to sign with a major label that guaranteed him more exposure than ever before.
Common was born Lonnie Rashied Lynn on the South Side of Chicago, an area not exactly noted for its fertile hip-hop scene. Nonetheless, he honed his skills to the point where -- performing as Common Sense -- he was able to catch his first break, winning The Source magazine's Unsigned Hype contest. He debuted in 1992 with the single "Take It EZ," which appeared on his Combat-released debut album, Can I Borrow a Dollar?; further singles "Breaker 1/9" and "Soul by the Pound" helped establish his reputation in the hip-hop underground, although some critics complained about the record's occasional misogynistic undertones. Common Sense subsequently wound up on Ruthless Records for his 1994 follow-up, Resurrection, which crystallized his reputation as one of the underground's best (and wordiest) lyricists. The track "I Used to Love H.E.R." attracted substantial notice for its clever allegory about rap's descent into commercially exploitative sex-and-violence subject matter, and even provoked a short-lived feud with Ice Cube. Subsequently, Common Sense was sued by a ska band of the same name, and was forced to shorten his own moniker to Common; he also relocated from Chicago to Brooklyn.
Bumped up to parent label Relativity, Common issued the first album under his new name in 1997. One Day It'll All Make Sense capitalized on the fledgling resurgence of intelligent hip-hop with several prominent guests, including Lauryn Hill, Q-Tip, De La Soul, Erykah Badu, Cee-Lo, and the Roots' Black Thought. The album was well received in the press, and Common raised his profile with several notable guest spots over the next couple of years; he appeared on Pete Rock's Soul Survivor, plus two watermark albums of the new progressive hip-hop movement, Mos Def and Talib Kweli's Black Star and the Roots' Things Fall Apart. Common also hooked up with indie-rap kingpins Rawkus for a one-off collaboration with Sadat X, "1-9-9-9," which appeared on the label's seminal Soundbombing, Vol. 2 compilation.
With his name popping up in all the right places, Common landed a major-label deal with MCA, and brought on Roots drummer ?uestlove as producer for his next project. Like Water for Chocolate was released in early 2000 and turned into something of a breakthrough success, attracting more attention than any Common album to date (partly because of MCA's greater promotional resources). Guests this time around included Macy Gray, MC Lyte, Cee-Lo, Mos Def, D'Angelo, jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove, and Afro-beat star Femi Kuti (on a tribute to his legendary father Fela). Plus, the singles "The Sixth Sense" and "The Light" (the latter of which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Solo Performance) earned considerable airplay. Following that success, Common set the stage for his next record with an appearance on Mary J. Blige's No More Drama in early 2002. He issued his most personal work to date with Electric Circus in December 2002. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

DARKNESS OF WHITE YOU CAN
THROUGH THE SADNESS TAKE YOUR FLIGHT
AND BECOME THE WINGS
THAT PIERCE THE VEIL
SPREADING STRONG AND TRUE TONIGHT
BROUGHT INTO THE LINE AT LAST
BY THE COLD EXPOSING SUN
I WAS GRANTED FREEDOM TAMED
TO BECOME THE CHOSEN ONE
THROUGH THE MIRROR
NIGHT RELFECTED
MIRACULOUS TO SEE
MY SOUL THREW AWAY THE MASK
THAT HIDES THE DEEPER ME
REVEAL THE SOUL INSIDE
SHROUD THE TRUTH WITH ALL YOUR LIES
HOPE, DESPAIR, AND GRACE
HOLD THE COMMON FACE
A TRUTH YOU CANNOT HIDE
HEED TO THE BURNING CALL
ON THE SURE AND SWIFTEST WING
HEAR YOUR HEART'S DESIRE
LIKE A BURNING FIRE
FLY BACK TO THE BEGINNING
IN THIS WORLD OF LOVE AND HATE
WHERE THE WIND BLOWS LIKE A BLADE
TWO YOUNG HEARTS, OF GRACE AND BEAUTY
DECISIONS START TO FADE
ON MY JOURNEY
FOR REDEMPTION
THE PAIN IS ALL I SEE
SEEKING THE RIGHTEOUS PATH
TO FIND THE TRUTH IN ME
VANISH WITH THE FAKE LIGHT
BORN ANEW IN THE TRUE LIGHT
WITHIN THESE HANDS
BREAKING THE DARK OF NIGHT
PIERCING THROUGH THE PAINTED WHITE
CUT IT ALL AWAY
FROM YESTERDAY
'TIL A NEW ERA'S IN SIGHT
UNLOCK THE HEART WITHIN
LET IT SPREAD ITS WINGS AND SOAR
RISING UP IN FLIGHT
THROUGH THE NIGHT OF WHITE
AND FLY ON FOREVER MORE~

This video will be offered as a response to any video which I feel shows a lack of understanding of the significance of the weak/strong atheist distinction.
*If you are curious about where agnosticism fits into all of this, please see my video, "Atheist or Agnsotic? You may be BOTH! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1Kpp7N3xrU
In this video, I will provide an analogy which is intended to...
1) Show that the distinction between weak and strong atheism is significant.
2) Show the consequences the weak and strong positions regarding the burden of providing evidence.
* To make things easier, whenever I say "a god" in this video, I really mean, more precisely, "a god or gods."
Theist = believes that a god exists
Weak (or Negative) Atheist = lacks a belief that a god exists
Strong (or Positive) Atheist = believes that a god does not exist
Theist: http://www.websters-online-dictionary.org/definition/theist
Theism: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/theist
Atheist: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/atheist
Atheism: http://www.websters-online-dictionary.org/definition/atheist
NOTE: This video focuses on an analogy. I tend to stay away from analogies because people seem to pick apart analogies, pointing out every last difference between the supposed analogous issue and the issue we're actually trying to explain, without ever considering whether or not their criticism is relevant to the validity of the analogy. Of course analogies are not exactly like the issue they try to explain. What is important is only that they are the same in the respects necessary to make the specific point being argued valid in both contexts, and for the same reasons. Feel free to criticize my analogy. However, please take a moment to consider whether or not your criticism is relevant to the validity of the analogy.
*The terms "negative atheism" and "positive atheism" mean the same thing as "weak atheism" and "strong atheism" respectively. The former terms have been around longer than the latter, but "weak" and "strong" seem to be more common today, so I use them rather than "negative" and "positive."
* I use the phrase "burden of providing evidence" rather than "burden of proof." I do this because absolute proof is not necessary in order to believe something, nor does one have to believe something with absolute certainty in order to say that the believe it (this is made apparent in popular definitions of the word "believe," which are provided below).
Believe: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/believe
WATCH THE VIDEO BEFORE READING THESE NOTES (until I mention the note, that is):
* For this analogy, it was necessary for me to use, as the affirmative claim of the theist, an incorrect answer (actually a specific category of incorrect answer, one which is not a multiple of 5). This is not intended to make any comment concerning whether or not the actual theist position that a god exists is correct or not. In fact, such a thing is irrelevant to my argument. I used this incorrect answer because, when I get to the part about the strong atheist position, I want to explain the burden of providing evidence and give evidence that the theist's claim is incorrect. Because of the nature of mathematics, this would be impossible if the theist's answer was indeed correct. The analogy would still be valid if I had used a correct answer; however, I could not clearly make this point concerning the strong atheist position, had I used the correct answer.
* Concerning the actual strong atheist position that a god does not exist. You may be wondering whether or not there is evidence to support such a claim or even whether it is possible. The only reason that such evidence may not be possible is the slipperiness of "the God hypothesis" made so by the fact that the concept of a god is so ill-defined. Whether or not such a slippery entity's existence is falsifiable is a topic for another video. Whether or not there is evidence against a god's existence is also a topic for another video, I will just comment that some prominent atheists, such as Richard Dawkins, have submitted what they believe to be evidence that a god does not exist. For example, in Dawkins' book, The God Delusion, he attempts to explain that a universe with a god would look much different than the one we live in.
I speak in a "matter of fact" tone, but this is simply for the sake of efficiency. I have been wrong many times before and expect to be wrong many times in the future. I think that part of being a reasonable person is inviting people to correct you if you are wrong and even taking satisfaction in it, so please feel free to comment on anything you think I may be incorrect about.
Thank you,
Chris

Chapter 4
On the last chapter the girls got to stay and hang out but they realized they didn't have any pj's for the night or clothes for the next day. The Jonas Brothers offered to pay for some clothes. Will the girls except the offer or have to drive home afterwards? Well keep reading to find out...
Kate: We'll be right back...
Nick: okay, we'll be waiting (smiling)
(So Kate, Sadie and Jessica wander off a little ways and talk about whether or not they should really let the guys pay for their clothes. They decided they would but pay them back some how.)
Kate: okay we're back!
Nick: Great
Joe: So...what where you talking about?
Sadie: O nothing
Joe: o common. You can tell us
Jess: No really its fine.
Kevin: well its getting late so wat are we doing?
Kate: I guess us girls ag-
Nick: I believe we where going to get the girls some clothes and then go watch a movie...
Kate: Ya what Nick said.
Kevin: okay you want me to drive?
Jess: What am I gonna do with my car?
Joe: You can ride with us or you can follow us in your car. Your choice.
Kate: (talking to Jess and Sadie) I say we ride with them.
Sadie: We'll ride with you if its okay.
Kevin: Fine with me.
Jess: Ya i'll leave my car here I guess and we can come back and get it.
Nick: Okay then its settled. Lets go.
(So Kevin was driving, Jessica was next to him and then Joe. In the back, Nick sat behind Kevin, Kate by him and then Sadie by Kate, behind Joe. So they headed to a local store and the girls got really cute pj's and clothes for the next day. It only took them like half an hour to get their clothes(A.N. Thats sure fast.) . Afterwards they went and got some milkshakes and started going back to the arena when Joe got a call.)
A.N. The boys had talked to their mom about the girls after the concert and she agreed they could stay if the boys liked them. She figured since they hadn't came back that they where out with the girls. It was getting late and she decided to get a room for them so they wouldn't have to drive home.)
Joe: Hello? Hey. Ya okay, we will. Be there in a bit. Love you too.
Kevin: who was that?
Nick: ya who Joe?
Joe: It was mom. She said they got a couple rooms at a hotel for us and the girls can stay in one if they want.
( Meanwhile...while he was talking on the phone Sadie was wondering who it was. If it was another girl or what. Did he have a girlfriend he hadn't told her about? You could see the sadness in her eyes.)
Kate: You okay Sadie.
Sadie: Ya i'm fine.
Jess:(overhearing them, turned around) What are you guys talking about?
Kate: I don't know about you but Sa-
Sadie: Nothing everythings fine(giving a look to Kate like shut up)
Kate: Ya never mind.
Jess: Okay whatever.
Sadie:(to Kate)I'll tell you later.
Kate: okay.
Joe: okay then, who's going to tell them cuz I really don't feel like turning around and talking.
Nick: I will since i'm back here.
Kevin: Jessica you might want to listen.
Nick: Joe just got off the phone with our mom and she said that they got a couple rooms for us to stay in. And she also said that you guys can stay in one if you want to.(when Sadie heard this she was releaved to know it was just their mom and not another girl.)
Jess: O we really co-
Kate: We would love to.(smiling at Nick)
Joe: Cool. Then we'll go back to get your car and head over there.
Kate: sounds like a plan!
Okay so this chapter was longer then the others. I guess it makes up for the last chapter. So what do they think there all going to do now that the girls are staying the night at the hotel with them. Are the guys attracted to the girls like they are to the guys? Find out in chapter 5 of Just Another Jonas Love Story.

Another amazing song by Sizzla off the 2006 Waterhouse Redemption CD.
"The 1980s witnessed a dancehall explosion, and with the music came the lifestyle: drugs, guns, and "slackness" (vulgarity).[1] Formally adopting the Rastafari faith, with its no-holds-barred advocacy of repatriation, slavery reparations and the use of ganja, he joined the ranks of the Bobo Ashanti in the mid-1990s.
Sizzla began to develop his own style whilst serving his musical apprenticeship with the Caveman Hi-Fi sound system.[2] He has used his music as a vehicle for his message, kickstarting his recording career in 1995 with a release through the Zagalou label[1], he then teamed up with "Bobby Digital" Dixon for a series of singles.[3] Extensive touring with fellow roots and culture artist Luciano followed, earning Sizzla notability.[1]
Jermaine Fagan, the same man who gave Buju Banton his first break, introduced Sizzla to top Jamaican saxophonist Dean Fraser, the musical director for Philip "Fatis" Burrell's Xterminator Family. 1996 marked an important turning point for Sizzla when he began working with Fatis.[1] This union led to a run of successful singles and the release of Sizzla's debut album, Burning Up.[1]
The two allied again a year later with the follow-up, Praise Ye Jah (JetStar).[1] Praise Ye Jah was quickly trumped by his release of the Dixon-produced Black Woman & Child that same year.[3] The title track was a smash hit and became something of a cultural reggae anthem. Sizzla scored several more hits during 1997, including "Like Mountain," "Babylon Cowboy," "Kings of the Earth," and the Luciano duet "Build a Better World."[1] This hot streak kicked off an enormously productive recording binge that lasted over the next several years, with much of his output still done for Burrell.[1]
Along with universal praise came Sizzla's first nomination for Best International Reggae Artist of the Year at the 1998 MOBO Awards and a place in various magazines' top 100 albums of the year.[3] Sizzla has since released several dozen albums, including 1998's Kalonji and Royal Son of Ethiopia from 1999. 1999 also saw him receive his second MOBO nomination.[3] Sizzla remains a constant presence in the reggae charts worldwide. Currently, Sizzla has 21 albums that have made it onto the Billboard's Top Reggae Albums music chart, the highest Words of Truth, reaching the peak position of #5.[4]
Sizzla Kalonji has released over 45 solo albums and over fifteen combination albums, crossing different genres of Reggae.[1] He has started his own record company, Kalonji Records; which in a joint venture with Damon Dash Music Group and Koch Records, released his most recent album, The Overstanding, in November 2006.[1] This is his third album released through Kalonji Records; as well as Black History and Life.[1]
Sizzla, along with reggae recording artists such as Capleton, Buju Banton, and Anthony B, are credited with leading a movement toward a re-embracement of Rastafarian values in contemporary reggae music by recording material which is concerned primarily with spirituality and social consciousness, explores common themes, such as Babylon's corrupting influence, the disenfranchisement of ghetto youth, oppression of the black nation and Sizzla's abiding faith in Jah and resistance against perceived agents of oppression."
