Run DMC: King of Rock

Run-DMC (sometimes written Run DMC, RunDMC, or Run DMC) was a hip hop group from Hollis, in the Queens borough of New York City. Founded by Joseph “Run” Simmons, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, and Jason “Jam-Master Jay” Mizell, the group is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential acts in the history of hip hop. They were the biggest act in hip-hop throughout the 1980s and are credited with breaking hip hop into mainstream music. This is a clip from the first ever “World Music Video Awards” organised by the embryonic Sky Channel in January 1987. The countdown clock says 1986, but the techie hadn’t got used to the new year yet. Award winners got a framed hologram and I have one of these on the wall (no, I didnt win it!) Here are Run DMC, introduced by three young presenters who should have been immediately taken out of the studio and shot.
